I highly recommend this episode of STEM-Talk!
In all seriousness, this podcast is an absolute MUST for anyone looking to fill their science cup. You'll be educated and be challenged with the latest research on topics ranging from AI to longevity to improving athletic performance and much more. If you're a non-classically trained autodidact science nerd like myself you may find you need to take notes and listen a few times, but I promise you'll find the extra listening time worth it!
Don and Ken truly do interview the most interesting people in the world of science and technology.
In this episode Dawn Kernagis and Ken Ford of IHMC speak with Dr. David Rabin. David Rabin is the chief innovation officer and co-inventor of Apollo, a wearable device designed to improve focus, sleep and access to meditative states by gently delivering layered vibrations to the skin. They also speak of the use of "radical safety states", touch and MDMA in the treatment of PTSD.
From the IHMC podcast page: "Dave is a board-certified psychiatrist and translational neuroscientist who for the past decade has been studying resilience and the impact of chronic stress on humans. He received his MD in medicine and Ph.D. in neuroscience from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. He trained in psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.Dave also has organized the world’s largest controlled study of psychedelic medicines and is well-known for his research into MDMA and its potential to treat post-traumatic stress disorder along with other disorders."
This was a fascinating listen and as someone who just can't get her HRV to stay above 55, the Apollo device is something i'll likely be purchasing in the near future. Take a listen friends. There's much learning to be had in this one!
